I love and agree with the importance of getting away from facades and what can be a social media trap if used as comparison, but I love a good toilet story time - I don’t think it’s vulnerable per se, but it is almost always a wild anecdote, and whether it is true or fake I love it!
I use social media to keep up with people I don’t chat with as often and to learn about places and things nearby that I wouldn’t otherwise hear about to explore my city. I also post pictures anytime I’m doing something that I take a bunch of pictures at.
I’m curious your thoughts on the balance or difference on posting for appearance and posting more exciting things. Is it a fake life or facade to only post excitement and adventures and not post mundane daily tasks and happenings?
Haha yes nothing bonds people like a good toilet story! I think it really depends on the person and what brings them joy. Some folks love sharing the everyday stuff, some stick to only the big adventures, and some do both. Personally, I don’t think posting the highlights in life automatically means it’s fake! Sometimes it’s genuine, and just curating what you actually want to remember and share. For me it got muddy / felt unhealthy when the algorithm was just reels of strangers who I didn’t even follow dominating my feed, because prior I did enjoy seeing updates from the people I know and care about. The balance is different for everyone, and I know there are many who do have a healthy relationship with traditional social media. I think ultimately what feels healthy on socials is up to the individual, a take what resonates and leave what doesn’t sort of approach. Thank you for reading and sparking discussion, I appreciate your perspective.
This was so beautifully put. I have also finally found space for my vulnerability, and it has been through my writing that I have found myself beginning to be way more honest with myself. I also write very truthfully about my mental health if you want to check it out. It feels great to say I am doing better than I have ever thought I would.
*To those who received this via email: I have since gone in and edit the multiple typos. I write these myself, and sometimes we humans have errors.

Fair, and like many things individual to the person!
